Volunteer
Volunteers: the team driving our mission into the future!
The St. Tammany Humane Society is calling on its community to lend a helping hand. The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal welfare and sheltering organization serving St. Tammany Parish and the more than 1,000 orphaned pets it receives each and every year. The shelter depends solely upon the support of the community to keep its operation running, and to continue to save the lives of these companion animals. Realizing these difficult economic times, the shelter is reaching out for your support in other ways, specifically volunteerism.
How do I become a volunteer?
Becoming a volunteer is easy! Every volunteer must first attend an orientation. These are held once a month, usually on a saturday, here at STHS. The fee is $15 and includes the training, a tour of our facility, and a volunteer t-shirt. Once you attend an orientation you are all set! Our next volunteer orientation will be held Saturday, February 11th, 9:00am @ STHS.
What oppurtunties are there for volunteers?
There are sooooo many different things for volunteers to do here at St. Tammany Humane Society. There are three primary areas of interest: volunteering at the shelter, volunteering off-site, and fostering a pet in your home.
Volunteering at the shelter includes walking and bathing dogs, socializing cats, showing potential adopters our pets, administrative help, maintenance help, etc.
Volunteering off-site includes off-site adoption days, fundrasiers, humane education in schools, etc. Just about anything we are doing in the community, we need volunteer help.

What are the age requirements to volunteer?
12 & 13 years of age can volunteer accompanied by a parent. This parent must also become a STHS volunteer
Ages 14 and up can volunteer at the shelter or offsite without a parent.

"The St. Tammany Humane Society could not be here without the help of our loyal volunteers. Whether it be walking dogs, helping at events, or even fostering a pet in your own home; we couldn't do it without you! Thanks in advance." Susie Kaznowitz, STHS Development & Volunteer Manager.
