Senior Pets Looking for Love

Are you a senior citizen looking for the love and compassion that only a pet can provide?

Well, the St. Tammany Humane Society is here to help with the

       Seniors for Seniors Program

At the STHS, we feel the compassion and devotion of a pet is a feeling that no one can truly explain. These four-legged friends inspire feelings that are just unexplainable, untouchable and bestow love that is unconditional. Not to mention, there are many health benefits from owning a pet. Studies show that by just petting a dog or cat, our blood pressure and stress levels can go down, it can reduce cardiovascular disease, reduce the feeling of loneliness, and much more. These feelings and benefits are things that should be shared throughout both the owner and the pet's lives together. The Seniors for Seniors program will allow elderly people in the community and abandoned animals to have this feeling again.

Both the owner and their pet will be able to finally live fuller, healthier lives together!

Prospective adopters ages 65 years or older will be able to work with one of our adoption counselors to find the

perfect fit with an adult pet (8 years or older).  Other program benefits include:

  • No adoption fee
  • Free annual vaccinations for the life of the pet, and
  • Continued senior citizen discount on all products and services

Who We Are

The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.

We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.

Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
