Adoption Process
Our Adoption Program and How it Works
If you come in today looking for a new addition to you family, find all the information here on how our adoption program works.
Ok, here is the breakdown:
1. You and your family come in and fall in love with a dog/cat at our shelter
2. We give you a private space called our adoption room to hang out with the pet and make a decision on whether or not to adopt.
3. There are two options at this point.
One is to foster the animal- this is a trial period where you take the pet home and "feel them out." for example you are able to see how they get along with other members in your family, other pets, and/or your home. After this trial period you can either return the pet or keep them. This option also includes a minimal fee.
The second option is to adopt the animal. this is where you fill out the application, pay the adoption fee, and take your new best friend home along with all the extra things you receive with adoption.
* All adoptions subject to approval

Who We Are
The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.
We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.
Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
