Give Your Home
Give Your Home
The St. Tammany Humane Society is looking for some very special people to open their hearts and their homes to some very special animals, if even for a short time. Companion animals require foster care for a variety of different reasons or just to make room for other orphaned pets looking for a second chance and a permanent loving home.
Some animals require foster care for medical reasons or rehabilitation, while some just need a temporary home due to restrictions caused by their age, whether it be too young or too old, and some just need to be placed with families in order to become socialized and ready for permanent placement.
Foster care is not for everyone; it can be as challenging as it is rewarding, which is why the St. Tammany Humane Society requires training and a background check for your existing pets (proof of vaccinations from veterinarian), especially for those that foster sick animals. We want to make sure that your animals are not infected or that the foster animals are not further contaminated. Also, it is imperative that renters check with their landlords before taking in any animals for fostering.
There is an equal need for foster care among all the animals, so you may take your preference, however, cats typically require more short-term medical care as they are more easily prone to infection post-surgery. The St. Tammany Humane Society covers all medical expenses for these animals.
These animals are full of heart and are sure to melt yours. If you have any questions or would like more information on fostering, please contact the St. Tammany Humane Society at 985-892-PETS(7387). Fostering is rewarding for everyone; open your heart and home to a pet in need

Who We Are
The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.
We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.
Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
