Feral Cat Fix Project

Feral Cat Fix Project

Nickolas640x496

Many of us know that cats, especially strays, like to have their independence and don’t really like to be domesticated or approached by humans, but, without interference, these cats could go on to produce hundreds of litters and thousands of additional stray cats. These stray or feral cats are often found in our trash, abused by unwelcoming residents, or find their fate in traffic.

In an effort to control the feral cat population and give these cats the freedom and independence they desire, the St. Tammany Humane Society has developed a successful Feral Cat Fix Project, in which residents can catch and bring in feral cats for sterilization and then release them back into the wild. In just 5 years, since the program began, the St. Tammany Humane Society has neutered more than 6,000 cats!

Although we recognize the importance of this program, it does not come without its costs. Many people realize the benefits, but don’t necessarily want to cover the costs of surgery for an animal that doesn’t belong to them. In response to this, the St. Tammany Humane Society offers a feral spay or neuter for only $30 and rely on contributions to the program to cover the remainder of the costs.

If you have a barn, trash, or burn piles, you probably have feral cats. Feral cats are great at controlling the rodent population, but can sometimes overpopulate themselves. If you would like to keep your feral cats, without the worry of adding to the problem, please trap and bring in the cats, and we will fix them.

For more information or to schedule your feral cats’ surgery, please call 985-892-PETS. The Feral Cat Fix Project, like all of our programs, relies solely on the contributions of friends and supporters like you. Who We Are

The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.

We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.

Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
