About Us

Mission: To save the life of every adoptable animal in our community through education,
adoption and spay/neuter programs.

Vision: To lay the foundation for a no-kill nation.

The St. Tammany Humane Society has been serving St. Tammany parish as the only non-profit, non-governmental
animal sheltering and welfare organization for more than 55 years. Our doors opened to the community’s neglected, abandoned and abused pets in 1953 by Holly Frederick Reynolds in memory of her cocker spaniel, Yankee Doodle Dandy, because she truly wanted to make a difference in the lives of these orphaned companions. Today, the mission is the same, but we have several new programs and services in place to do just this-to give these animals a new leash on life; we just need the support of our community to continue the mission and realize our vision.

We truly would not be here without you!

Who We Are

The St. Tammany Humane Society is the only non-profit animal sheltering and welfare organization serving St. Tammany parish, and as such, we rely primarily on the assistance of the community we serve to care for the more than 1,000 orphaned pets that enter our shelter each year.

We offer a variety of services and have developed several programs to give these companion animals a second chance and a new leash on life.

Please take some time to dig in to the site and see what we’ve got to wag our tail about.
