Happy Tails Success Stories

Liberty

Back in October we saw a listing for Liberty and it was love at first sight. Her story touched our hearts and for days we agonized over whether or not we should try adopting her. Finally, after much deliberation, we went to the Humane Society to meet her. Our first impression was of a skittish dog who had never known what it was like to be part of a family. She walked and ran with a noticable limp and seemed scared of almost everything, but her eyes were sweet and soulful. Having an already established pack of three dogs at home, we decided to take Liberty on as a foster.

Within hours of getting her home, we knew there was no way we could give her back. She fit in well with the other dogs and within days was opening up to the humans. She has discovered the joys of running care free in the backyard, and the satisfaction of chasing squirrels up trees. Liberty has become amazingly affectionate, jumping up to recieve hugs and pettings when she would have shied away from humans in the past. She is enjoying a life of playing with her new brother and sisters, and has discovered a love of salmon treats. She enjoys rubbing her face against any blanket she can get her paws on, and adores her growing collection of sweaters.

She even enjoys sitting on the patio furniture in the mornings, where she patrols for squirrels and wayward birds.

Liberty has also responded well to training. She goes in and out of the dog door whenever she pleases and hasn't needed to be corrected more than once about staying away from the Christmas tree! Best of all, we managed to get her leg X-rayed and she is now on Adequine injections in the hopes that one day her joint will be repaired and she will be able to walk without a limp.

All in all I think it's safe to say that Liberty is having a good life. She gets the best food, the best care, and the best love we can provide. We give thanks to the St. Tammany Humane Society for giving Liberty the opportunity to have a chance at a better life.

Sincerely,
The Leche Family

Hope, Roxy, and Sam
We now have a third family member, after I had a miscarriage and finally found a brighter side. It was my beautiful shelter dogs that made me see why. Sam who is almost 13 is very specific and must have everything a certain way like she is OCD. She is full of love and looks into your eyes like she can read your soul. Next you have Hope who was found near death in a feild. Who could do such a thing to something so sweet? They got her on IV fluids and fed her good and we socialized her and she is a love bug. She stays on your heels. Any sudden sound still startles her but she is always there to greet you with wet nose kisses when you get home. Durring a storm she got out. We searched for hours in the rain, drenched, calling out her name, knowing it would not help with her being part Greyhound. The next day we all woke up early and did it again and the next day 'til we decided to check the animal control. Ten minutes earlier a lady dropped her off from 30 miles away. She was exhausted. My heart dropped when my mother-in-law pulled up with her and Sam was licking her face. Now we have sweet little ROXY. She fell perfectly into our family and loves our couch. Hope adores her and has to sleep next to her but roxy has to sleep next to me. Talk about crowded, but loving it.
