STHS Transport: Waggin' Wheels2
Approxuimately 8,000 cats and dogs are killed each year in St. Tammany Parish alone! This eye opening statistic should cause any animal lover to pause, pondering both the cause and possible solutions.
The St. Tammany Humane Society is on it!
Cause: In the south, there are just too many people who breed litter after litter of puppies just to make a quick buck!
Cause: Not enough conscious people who spay and neuter their pets
Cause: Not enough members in our community to call these animals their own.
These sad, but truthful facts make up for one heart wrenching outcome: a bunch of over crowded shelters full of homeless and neglected animals waiting for a second chance and a home to call their own.
Solution: There can be many solutions to this problem. For some people, the number of euthanasia rates can generate a passion to save lives.
For these animals, the clock is ticking. With every second that goes by, more and more helpless animals reach a fate, they never could have asked for.
The St. Tammany Humane Society understands time is of the essence. We have implemented a mobile adoption campaign we like to call Waggin' Wheels! Since February of 2010, the STHS has executed 10 successful transports, saving the lives of over 200 dogs which otherwise would have been euthanized or live a shelter life until adopted out. Whether it's by van or plane STHS is committed to saving lives. All the dogs have been adopted to new, loving homes in the Northern United States.

1. We are always in search of volunteers to drive. Get a partner, take the weekend off, and be able to save the lives of dogs by driving them north. 2. As always, programs like Waggin' Wheels cost money. You can send a dedicated check to our Covington location, call us, or donate to the right with our donation tracker! 3. Foster an animal in your own home while he/she waits to be transported.
